Usage policy
AA NRC Email — how and why we use it
WHY THIS EXISTS
This mailbox is here to protect your anonymity while you do service. It gives you an email address that belongs to your service role, not to you personally — so you never have to hand out your private address, your workplace address, or your full name to do AA work. When your service role ends, the address stays with the role and passes to whoever carries it next.
Keeping service email separate also protects the people we answer. Someone reaching out to AA for the first time may be trusting us with the hardest thing they have ever written. That trust is the whole point of this system.
WHAT IT IS FOR
Use this address for National Remote Communities service activity: answering enquiries, coordinating meetings and helpline work, Twelfth Step contact, and the practical business of the service body. Please keep personal correspondence, business dealings, and anything unrelated to service on your own accounts.
ANONYMITY — OURS AND THEIRS
Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions. In practice, for email, it means:
- Never confirm or reveal that anyone is a member of AA — to anyone — without their clear permission.
- Use first names, or first name and last initial, in anything that might travel beyond the person you are writing to.
- Think before forwarding. A message that names members, or an enquirer's story, belongs only with the people who need it to do the service.
- What people share with us stays with us.
REPRESENTING AA
When you write from this address, the person reading sees AA — not just you. Write nothing you would be uncomfortable hearing read aloud at a meeting. Be kind, be patient, and remember we have no opinion on outside issues: no politics, no commerce, no other causes from this address. Never use it for anything unlawful, or for material that could bring embarrassment to the fellowship.
TAKING CARE OF IT
Your sign-in is yours alone — do not share it. Shared mailboxes are visible to everyone granted access to them, so expect service colleagues to see what is sent and received there. If you make a mistake, send something to the wrong place, or notice anything strange about the account, tell a manager — quickly and without drama. Mistakes are human; hiding them is the only real problem.
Managers administer these mailboxes to keep the service running, and can see message records where that is needed for the job.
By continuing, you accept this policy and agree to use AA NRC Email in this spirit.
